Platform independent networking

Question markOver the weekend I did an experiment on my personal blog to test the horizon scanning entry I posted here.

Please read the experiment but in essence I wanted to see how effective the new generation of web technology (aka Web 2.0) is at linking people and ideas up even though these people (and ideas) are operating in different places and don't know each other.

So I wrote a post about a person I had come across on the internet and invited him, when/if he found the post, to leave comment. I also mentioned a second person in the post . . . [click the Read More link below to continue reading]

Within 3.5 hours the first person had left a comment and within another 2.25 hours the second person had left a comment too.

Why is this significant?
We can learn loads from this simple experiment but the main thing is that we (ruralnet|uk), through the new ruralnet|online, don't need to bring everyone together onto a single platform. We just need to make the links.

But, most people and small rural charities don't realise the significance of the changes in internet technology that are upon us and don't have the ability to establish a presence in the new Web 2.0 world. For these people we need to raise awareness, provide a place for them to establish a presence (or tell them where to go and do it elsewhere).

We don't need to 'control' we need to 'faciliate'.
